Leafy green checks across the body, opening into a wide multi-banded pallu of blush and bronze that reads as a separate piece of cloth entirely.

The design

Medium-scale checks cover the body at a high density. The pallu is the contrast: several parallel bands in blush pink and bronze, running horizontally across the width, with white between them and tassels at the edge. The bugdi border reads the same on both faces.

How it is woven

Woven by master weaver Aafreen and the master-weaver households of Mominpura, Maheshwar, on a pit loom with the weft inserted by hand.

Care and storage

1. Dry clean only, by a professional cleaner


2. Air-dry in shade, without wringing


3. Iron inside out on low to medium heat, under a cotton press cloth


4. Store wrapped in breathable cotton or muslin, in a cool dark cupboard


5. Refold every three to six months so the same folds do not settle in

Colour fast on both wash and rub testing, on every colour. Cared for this way, the saree is expected to last and to be passed on.

Held in stock rather than made to order. About half of orders leave the same or next day, most within two to three days, and most orders within India are delivered in three to seven days.

A banded pallu like this one is the most demanding part of the drape. Each band has to arrive at the right width and stop where it was meant to, blush against bronze, with the green of the body still fresh in the eye. There is no way to do it in a hurry.

The border is bugdi, its design reading the same on both faces.

The cloth itself is featherlight and semi-sheer, soft enough to pleat immediately and to keep the pleat through an evening. Where the weave runs a little uneven, that is the hand and not a fault.

What does bugdi mean?
Bugdi describes the woven border design, which reads the same on both faces of the border. It is a feature you can turn over in your hand and see for yourself.

Will the body need a petticoat?
The body is semi-sheer, which is what gives the saree its weight of 350-360 g and its 44-46 GSM. Wear it with a petticoat in a matching or complementary shade. The same lightness is why it drapes softly and holds its pleats through a long evening.
