The border

One long vertical strip of geometric-floral blocks in teal runs the full length of the dupatta and finishes in a fringe. The rest of the set is a solid yellow ground with occasional placed motifs, and the brown that appears through the teal keeps the contrast from turning sharp. The finish is matte rather than glossy.

Styling

Yellow with teal is a daytime pairing: haldi functions, festival mornings, an office day when you want colour. Drape the dupatta with the printed strip forward so the vertical line lengthens the silhouette. Brass or oxidised jewellery works better than gold against the matte finish. The teal deepens and lightens a little along the strip, as hand-printed colour naturally does.

A border that runs the length of the cloth is the hardest kind to keep straight. In Bhagalpur, the artisan works down the dupatta pressing the carved block once, moving it a hand-width, pressing again, trusting the eye to hold the line over two and a half metres. Where two impressions meet slightly out of step, the hand is showing itself.

1. Do I need a lining under this kurta?
No. The silk is opaque, so it needs no lining or aster. Many customers add one anyway, purely to give the kurta more body and a more formal fall.

2. Will the teal border bleed onto the yellow?
No. The fabric is colour-fast and does not bleed on the first wash, which matters most on a light ground like yellow.

3. What comes in the set, and can it be stitched for a larger size?
Three unstitched pieces: a top of 2.5 m, a bottom of 2.5 m, both 44 to 45 inches wide, and a dupatta of 2.5 m at 35 to 36 inches. That meterage lets a tailor cut it to your exact fit, up to 4XL, and the length can be customised for larger sizes.

4. How do I know this is hand block printed and not machine printed?
Look at the repeats. Hand block printing leaves tiny shifts where one carved wooden block meets the next, and a little variation in how deeply the colour sits. Screen and machine printing repeat perfectly. Every metre of this set was stamped by hand in Bhagalpur, so those small differences are the proof, not a flaw.

5. What if I do not like the shade when it arrives?
Exchange is available if the shade or the quality is not what you loved. Screens do shift colour a little, so the fabric can read slightly warmer or cooler in daylight than it does on your phone.
