The navy and the green were never one cloth. Each was printed separately in Bhagalpur, with carved wooden blocks laid in wide straight bands, and the gold and white medallions added on top by hand. Matching two colours this far apart, so that they read as one set rather than two accidents, is a judgment made in the workshop long before the fabric is folded.
