Three patterns, one palette

The whole set stays inside turquoise and deep blue, with dark green and brown surfacing in the motifs. What changes is the pattern: banded geometric stripes across the top, and paisley-like florals crowding the dupatta at a much higher density.

Running along the dupatta length is a distinct decorative border strip, with the ends left in a fringe. It is the piece that carries the most work, which is exactly where a dupatta should be doing it.

The colour

Turquoise sitting against deep blue is a narrow shift rather than a contrast, so the set reads rich instead of loud. It suits office and daily wear, and holds its own at a daytime function with silver or oxidised jewellery.

Stripes that drift a fraction and paisleys stamped a shade unevenly are the marks of a hand-carved block.

A striped block and a paisley block are printed nothing alike. The stripe has to meet its own edge cleanly down a full 2.5 m length, so the printer sights along the last impression before setting the next, and any drift compounds visibly. The paisley is more forgiving, laid dense enough that the eye reads a field rather than a grid.

Both are carved in wood in Bhagalpur and both are stamped by hand onto the turquoise silk, one component at a time. The border strip along the dupatta length is a third block again, run end to end before the fringe is left loose at the ends.

Will the turquoise fade or bleed when I wash it?
No. The fabric is colour-fast and does not bleed on the first wash, and it stays colour-fast afterwards. Dry clean the first wash, then a gentle cold hand wash keeps the turquoise as it arrived.

Why does the top look different from the dupatta?
That is deliberate. The top carries banded geometric stripes while the dupatta is printed with dense paisley-like florals and its own border strip. The pattern changes across the components, which is what gives the set its asymmetry.

How do I know this is genuine hand block work?
The stripes are stamped one block at a time along the length, so they drift very slightly rather than lining up perfectly, and the ink reads deeper in some impressions than others. Artisans in Bhagalpur do this with hand-carved wooden blocks. A screen or machine print shows none of that variation.

What does the set include and will it fit a larger size?
