The colour pairing

Silk and stitching

Where two blocks meet, the join is placed by eye - the signature of hand printing.

This set asks more of the Bhagalpur workshop than most, because it is really two prints made to live together. One block cuts folk figures, another cuts paisleys, and the printer must judge how much yellow and orange to carry across both so the pink and the blue read as a pair instead of two ideas. The border bands are stamped last, aligned by eye at each end. Held up to the light you can see the tiny shifts where the printer's hand set the rhythm.

1. Will the blue bleed into the pink on the first wash?
No. The fabric is colour-fast and does not bleed on the first wash. Dry clean it the first time, then a gentle cold hand wash keeps it looking new.

2. Is the dupatta a contrast or a match?
It is a printed contrast. The set pairs pink with blue across the pieces, with yellow and orange motifs and border bands running through both, so the combination is designed together rather than matched after the fact.

3. What does the unstitched set include?
Three unstitched pieces: a top of 2.5 metres and a bottom of 2.5 metres, both 44 to 45 inches wide, and a dupatta of 2.5 metres at 35 to 36 inches wide.
