A warm, grounded brown checked across the body, running into a wide solid pallu in metallic gold with striped borders at the edges.

The design

Medium-scale checks in brown and beige cover the body. The borders are striped along their length, and the pallu resolves into a broad gold panel rather than more pattern. The bugdi border is woven so its design reads the same on both faces.

How it is woven

Handwoven on a pit loom in Maheshwar, Khargone district, Madhya Pradesh, with the weft inserted by hand and a dobby setting the checks and the border.

Care and storage

Dry clean only, by a professional cleaner
Air-dry in shade, without wringing
Iron inside out on low to medium heat, under a cotton press cloth
Store wrapped in breathable cotton or muslin, in a cool dark cupboard
Refold every three to six months so the same folds do not settle in

Colour fast on both wash and rub testing, on every colour. Cared for this way, the saree is expected to last and to be passed on.
