The print

The leaf shape is small and repeated at close intervals, in cream against lilac with gold-toned accents catching through. From a distance the effect is a texture rather than a pattern.

Then the dupatta ends in a wide horizontal panel of dense ornate work, which is where the piece stops being quiet.

Wearing it

Pastels are the hardest shades to buy online and the easiest to wear once they arrive. Stitch a straight kurta, keep the panelled end of the dupatta falling at the front, and pair with pearls or fine gold. It suits daytime weddings particularly well.

A pale ground shows every fault in a print, which is why most pastel block print is done on cotton. On silk, with a hand-struck block, it is a harder thing to make.
